Peace Tree - set of 6 cards
A sketch from my field diary while travelling in the Altai Republic. The peace tree was painted when camping using a compact water colour box and waters from the Katun River. This tree, a small silver birch, was growing out of a huge rock with a rich patina surface. There were no other trees in the valley. Whilst painting I noticed that our guide had made a small offering to the spirits in the Altai style (using milk and bread) and placed it into a naturally-occurring cup in the rock surface.
