Ice Maiden - set of 6 cards
This set is inspired by Iron Age artefacts and body markings (tattoos) discovered in the extraordinary frozen tomb burials of the Altai Mountains.
Hare - “You are the magic in your life”
The hare image was originally carved into a wooden plaque (Altai nomadic, Pazyryk archaeological culture, 5th century BC). Card reverse reads: “You are the magic in your life!”
Three Deer - “The wise ones”
Interpretation of leather deer applique used to decorate a log sarcophagus (Altai nomadic, Pazyryk archaeological culture, 5th century BC). Reverse of card reads: “The wise ones, treading the path gently”
The Ice-Maiden Tattoo
This card is inspired by an ancient tattoo found on the remains of a Scythian mummy, dubbed ‘The Ice-Maiden’ in the western press. The mummy was discovered in the permafrost in the Altai Republic, Siberia. The reverse of this card reads: “With bone needles and soot as her scribe, she made her skin the canvas for her soul”

Birds
Inspired by a Scythian (Iron Age) clothing plaque crafted from gold sheet, 7th century BC, East Kazakhstan. The original plaque, no more than 2 cm wide, is one of many. Clothing plaques were sewn onto hessian-style cloth to create the effect that the wearer was adorned in cloth made entirely of gold.
